Degree Project: BA Architecture
Analogue Representation Unit
Group Build and Solo Works
Through model making and design, this project tells the story of an imagined craftsman who didn’t quite make history. In the first assignment of this unit, I looked to redesign well-known devices starting with a polygraph/lie detector.
After struggling to get the printing process to work, I thought it was ironic that I’d built a lie detector that couldn’t show you if someone was lying or not.
This inspired my character whose final works were consistently foiled by a single flaw. The next device was a live installation of a piece of musical furniture on my university campus. With a group of 3 designers and set builders, we spent two weeks constructing a chair out of repurposed materials to create a comfortable seat which would serenade you with sounds so unpleasant you’d be compelled to keep walking. The last assignment was to draw and model this inventor's home which was purpose-built to manage recurring disappointment. His home’s feature piece was a chairlift extending out of the building giving him a view across the city where he could reflect on where it all went wrong.
